Wren Embroidery Pattern for &Stitches Zine

Ugh, I have been ill with a horrid cold/flu thing this week so things have been a bit quiet round here... but I'm feeling much better now (hurrah!) and have some nice news to share with you guys...

... I'm the featured designer in the new issue of &Stitches Zine! Yay!

In case you've not heard of it, &Stitches is a quarterly e-zine about embroidery and other hand stitching. I was thrilled to be asked to contribute to their Woodland-themed issue. They've interviewed me about my work....

... and I've designed an embroidery pattern for the zine: a sweet little wren. Regular readers might remember me choosing new threads and doing some research involving bird books at the end of last year... well, this is what I was working on :)

Issue 5 also includes interviews with Abby Glassenberg, Mother Eagle and Trish Burr, plus several woodland themed projects: embroidery patterns, an appliqué pattern, woodland-inspired stitch combinations and an "owl girl" softie.

You can find this issue in the &Stitches shop HERE... and you can get 10% off Issue 5 with the discount code TEALOVER until Feb. 3rd. Hurrah!

UPDATE: My wren embroidery pattern is now available directly from my shop! Visit my shop to see all my printable PDF patterns

Congratulations! You're woodland scene and little wren both look super cute! I will have to buy small embroidery hoops and try creating some of my own embroidery designs as a way to learn new stitches, instead of my usuual cross stitch!

Aw, thanks Gemma but it's actually just the wren that's my pattern. The other designs pictured are from other contributors :)

Wrens are my favourite. Sometimes in the morning I walk through a park before work, and I have to stop myself from letting out a shrill scream if I see a wren. They are just the tiniest. They're little tails are adora-balls.

Mad props Laura, it looks fab.

Well, the little birdie has just sold it too me! It's beautiful and I love the words you have used for him. You are bad though as I'm supposed to be designing my own. Still who can resist? Woodland animals are very special to me. Even though I like to stitch and make from my own designs it is still always lovely to work from other peoples.

To people who see the designs and wonder if they can do it I would say that yes they can. Buy some threads, enough just to give you a bit of choice - your threads are fantastic for a start, a small hoop some cotton fabric and a needle and then just do it and have a play, there are videos on line to watch to learn the stitches or get a stitch book. You learn through doing and it is such fun.

It sounds like a great magazine, Bustle and sew is a favourite too. Thanks for the heads up, off to make my purchase now.
